I’m 18 years old, live in Marlborough New Zealand and am a New Zealand Junior Track Sprinter. I’ve tried my hand in a variety of cycling codes though have settled on sprinting. In 2013, racing my second (and final) year in the Junior Under 19 ranks I represented New Zealand at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival where i won 3 silver medals in the Team Sprint, Keirin and 7.5km scratch race. I then gained selection into the 2013 New Zealand Junior Worlds squad where I represented New Zealand at the 2013 Junior Track World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. At this event I placed 4th in the team sprint and set the fastest time ever by a New Zealand Junior Team Sprint squad. Training towards this event I was training around 12 times a week in the gym, out on the road, at the track and on the soul shattering erg.

Prior to turning sprinter Andrew Jamieson of Fitlab coached me towards a South Island Secondary schools title in the Under 17 grade and also towards a victory in the Hill climb, Sprint and overall classifications at the National Cuddon Schools Tour again in the Under 17 grade. When I entered the Under 19 ranks I was given the opportunity to race for the Fitlab team in the Benchmark Homes Elite Cycling series which provided me with valuable experience and knowledge for future improvement in the sport.

To this day Andrew has provided me with constant analysis on body composition, lactate thresholds and various other physical testing results which has aided the effectiveness of my training significantly by constantly tracking my progression.

I’ve found the testing results an excellent reference for a variety of reasons. For my coaches and nutritionists involved with the New Zealand squad it has provided me with coherent and specific physical attributes of myself which may have otherwise been difficult to find. This has meant my programmes can be individualized specific to me and how I will react with different training.

I would recommend Fitlab for anyone wanting to go faster or feel better on their bike. The programs and testing by Fitlab are extremely versatile and could cater for any type of rider be it recreational or competitive. Andrew’s experience and extensive cycling and scientific knowledge complement one another to form the ideal coaching platform. From a competitive view, my personal cycling development has been influenced hugely by Andrew of Fitlab and the opportunities associated with becoming a Fitlab rider are huge.
